New Feature! Automatic Mobile Survey Formatting

Last September, we announced the upcoming release of our new Mobile Survey format. Since the writing of that blog post, our development team has continued to work diligently to make FluidSurveys the #1 survey software for converting your surveys into a mobile-friendly format in real time, without requiring your survey respondents to download any apps to their mobile device!

Today, we’re happy to announce that this feature is ready for mass consumption. FluidSurveys’ Mobile Survey Formatting is ready to rock!

FluidSurveys' Mobile Survey Formatting is Live

What’s So Special?

Many hours of thought and planning went into this feature before a single line of code was ever tapped out from our keyboards. Here are some of the ideas we came up with to make our customers super happy with our new Mobile Survey Formatting:

Can Touch This!

Multiple choice question in mobile formatMaking surveys easy to use on small touchscreens means having larger interactive features. Buttons, sliders, checkboxes and dropdowns are larger and visually styled to reflect their touchability.

We’ve adjusted margins, spacing and control sizes to make it as easy as possible to identify and use the interactive parts of the survey.

Smart Display

Small screens make it hard to view and use large questions. All grid-type questions know how to convert to friendlier display modes when viewed on smaller screens.

For example, a multiple choice grid with five or more columns will display as a series of drop-downs on small phone-type screens.

On larger tablet screens the conversion happens at eight or more columns. These adjustmets are transparent, and do not affect your survey definition or the way responses are reported.

Let’s Take This Offline

FluidSurveys' Mobile Survey Formatting - Offline SupportYou don’t always have an Internet connection on the go, so we give you two ways you can access and use your surveys offline. While connected, use your mobile browser to surf to http://yoursurvey_url/offline.

After loading the page, you may disconnect from the web. The responses you enter will be stored on device and can be reviewed or uploaded at a later time.

You may also use our free FluidSurveys mobile app, available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play marketplaces. As long as you’re online the first time you use the app, it will download the surveys you want to use offline, and store responses on device until you decide to sync.

Don’t forget that you need an Enterprise account to use FluidSurveys without an Internet connection! Learn more about FluidSurveys Enterprise.

Always Fresh

Staying current is important. As we add features and upgrades, your iOS and Android apps will keep themselves up to date as much as possible. The update process is as quick as loading a website, and doesn’t interfere with what you’re doing.

Tips for a Happier Mobile Experience

Good Things in Small Amounts

Not all mobile devices have as much power as the newest iPads or Androids. Devices older than a couple of years may have trouble displaying excessively large survey pages. To help these survey-takers, keep your pages short by having an average of five questions per page.

If device performance degrades too much, users can always switch to “Desktop” formatting at the bottom of their survey, which should speed things up a little. Survey designers can also control exactly when and how the survey uses mobile formatting from publishing settings.

Become Familiar with the Options

If you check out our September blog post, you will learn that by visiting the Publish — Settings page for your survey, you have access to a number of options to configure your Mobile Survey formatting.

Give it a Go Today!

The best way to become familiar with a new feature is to use it yourself. Create a practice survey and load it on your mobile device. Have fun!
