Sleep Intervention & Dementia
Introduction and study information
This survey is part of the study - Understanding healthcare providers’ barriers to prescription/recommendation of non-pharmacological sleep interventions for persons with dementia (funded by Alberta Health Services).
We are doing this study because current evidence shows disordered sleep is not adequately assessed nor treated. This survey will help us raise awareness of the issue and promote best practice. This study has wide relevance because evidence exists for a range of non-pharmacological sleep interventions that can be recommended/implemented by diverse healthcare providers.
We will also gain ideas for future practice-relevant and policy-relevant research through this survey. By analyzing these survey findings against the existing evidence-base we will be able to identify research –to-practice gaps and the contextual influences on service delivery. This study provides a foundation for future, intervention based, research.
We invite you to participate by providing your professional opinion about sleep problems in persons with dementia. Your participation is voluntary and completion of this survey indicates your consent to participate. The survey will take about 5-10 minutes to complete and we anticipate there are no risks to participation. You can skip questions you do not wish to answer. You will benefit by receiving additional information about sleep and dementia if you indicate at the end of the survey that you would like to receive additional resources as they are developed.
The survey results will be securely stored for 5 years and then destroyed. The researcher will receive only aggregate data that cannot be linked to individual participants.
For further information about the study please contact the principle investigator Dr Cary Brown (cary.brown@ualberta.ca or phone 780-492-9545).
