How to Export Your Results to SPSS

Posted in: Blog by admin on March 23, 2010 | No Comments

We’ve gotten a few emails from users asking us to describe in some more detail how to export their results into SPSS. In this tutorial, we’ll talk to you about exactly how this can be done.

First and foremost, before you even export your results into SPSS, you’ll want to make sure that your questions have the appropriate labels and that your choices have the appropriate scores associated with them.

For any question in your survey, you can add a label. By default, there is a green link that says “No Identifier” right next to the question title. If you click on this, you’ll be able to change the label of the question.

In terms of “scores” for choices, by default, we start with a score of 1 and increment from there. If you don’t like our scoring system, you can always change it by clicking on the “None” link in front of the “score” option in most question types.

Once you have defined your labels and scores (i.e. coded your survey), you can then proceed to the export.

All you have to do is head on over to your “export” page for the specific survey you are working on. When you click on the SPSS export, you’ll get a Zip file that contains a .sps script and responses.txt file.

Before you run your .sps script, you’ll need to make a slight modification in your responses.txt file. Open this file with a plain text editor such as notepad. Once you do, you’ll have to change the value of the “/File” variable to the “Full Path” to the file rather than the file name. Initially, the variable will be set as:

/FILE=’responses.txt’

and then you would need to change it to something like this:

/FILE=’C:\Users\Alex\Documents\Downloads\dataset_spss\responses.txt’

Once you’ve done this, you’ll have to run your script.sps file by double-clicking on it. When you do, SPSS will open and you’ll see your script. Just click on the Run menu and then click on “Run all” – this should do the trick.

New Names for our Pro and Ultra Plans

Posted in: Blog by admin on | No Comments

Extra, Extra! It recently occurred to us that since we are “Fluid”Surveys, it would make sense to use more “fluid” names across our products and website. For this reason, we just changed the names of our Pro and Ultra Packages. From now on, we’re calling our Pro Package the Atlantic Package. Similarly, we’re calling our Ultra plan the Pacific Package (think of this as the “Peace” of mind Package). We’ll be making more such modifications as time goes by and this is a good start. To be honest, we’re quite excited about this and hope that you are as well! If you have any suggestions/comments that you feel should be incorporated into our website, do let us know :)

Happy Swimming,

Discontinuation of One Time Survey Option

Posted in: Blog by admin on March 19, 2010 | No Comments

Dear Customers,

We introduced an experimental pricing option last year known as “One Time Surveys”. While we found that there was some interest in this option, our monthly pay as you go plans continued to be the most popular options. We also received comments from our users that we had too many pricing plans making the sign up process a bit complicated. Since we favor simplicity, we will be discontinuing our “One Time Fee Surveys” on April 1st, 2010 and will only continue to maintain our monthly “pay as you go” plans. This is not to say that “One Time Surveys” will never be re-introduced again; however, for the near future, they will be discontinued. Any customers that already have “One Time Surveys” will not be affected by this change.

In the meanwhile, if you were planning on purchasing a “One Time Survey” from us, we encourage you to do so before the end of the month while they’re still around.

Best Regards,
FluidSurveys Team.

Let us start off by sincerely apologizing to all users for the inconvenience that this undoubtedly caused you. Our goal here at FluidSurveys is to ensure a seamless user experience for both survey takers and creators and an incidence like this is unacceptable to us.

One Time Surveys Explained in Detail

Posted in: Blog by admin on March 2, 2010 | No Comments

Want all the benefits of a Pro or Ultra Plan but only creating one survey? We’ve considered that!

With our one-time-surveys, you have access to all of the features of whichever plan you choose while only paying a one time fee. We realize that not everyone is in favor of pay as you go monthly plans and so the one time fee surveys are a very good alternative.

What is so amazing about this? Well, you get access to fabulous features and analytics to create that one particular survey and then you still have access to the data collected indefinitely. It’s Awesome! You can collect your data and analyze for as long as you want! We’ve created these options especially for people, companies or organizations who do not conduct surveys as a part of their regular day-to-day business. These are organizations that may, once a year or every couple-of-years, need to make a survey. What do you get with the one time Pro and Ultra plans? You get an unlimited number of questions, an unlimited number of responses, a huge variety of question types, editable CSS and themes and the ability to import your contacts from your e-mail. What is your only requirement to continue to access the data? Just sign in at least once every 6 months so that we know that you are still using your account. The costs are also very reasonable. Editing your survey

Posted in: Blog by admin on February 28, 2010 | No Comments

As you know, FluidSurveys has recently updated its software. As a result, editing your survey is now easier than ever! You can rearrange, add, delete, modify, and even copy/paste questions within the same survey or across different surveys:

While you edit your survey, you can see a real-time preview of your survey on your right side. If you’re not completely satisfied with the order of the questions, it’s very easy to re-order them quickly:

There are small minus buttons throughout the editor that allow you to delete unwanted items with the click of a button!

If you decide to re-word an individual question, you can just click on it and then modify it in the “question options” tab that becomes active on your right side.

Finally, “copying/pasting” your survey or “duplicating” your survey is also very easily done. This is especially important if you are creating a brand new survey that is just slightly different from your old one:

Ultimately, these features for editing and reorganizing your surveys will help you save a considerable amount of time and help you to develop an effective survey.

Making Your Opinion Count – Guest Post

Making Your Opinion Count

Submitted by Paul DesBarres, President of Nova Insights Market Research & Consulting in Kentville, Nova Scotia.

When many people think of market research, they think “polling” and about those supper-time telephone calls. However, it is much more than that. Yes, it includes polling, and it can include telephone calls at supper-time. However, many do not distinguish between market research and telemarketing, but they are very different. Telemarketing is sales, and that’s the only goal of the person speaking to you on the phone. Market research interviewers are after nothing more than your opinion. Your telephone number was likely randomly generated to be a representative of the general population or some segment within the population. You get to provide your opinion to influence businesses and other organizations in their decision-making. I am “in the business,” so I may be a bit biased, but I’ve always viewed this as a privilege to have my opinion count toward helping an organization better serve the market.

Tips and Techniques for Creating your Survey #2

Posted in: Blog by admin on February 4, 2010 | No Comments

Here is part II of our post on design tips that’ll be useful to you during your survey creation :)

#6 Keep your overall survey short and to the point

Long story short-  keep your survey to a reasonable number of questions and pages. If you can do your survey in 50 questions instead of 60 or 8 instead of 10, why would you write those extra questions as a time waster for both you and for your participants?

#7 Be careful with question wording

Keep in mind that depending on your topic, your participants may not be as up to date on modern web lingo or idioms. So, to be most effective, use proper grammar and make sure to define terms that may not be known to your respondents.

#8 Tell your participants how long it will take to complete your survey

If your participants know before they begin the survey that it will take a certain amount of time to complete the survey, they will know whether or not they can complete it or if they have to wait and do it later.

#9 Make sure to proof read

Spelling and grammatical errors can not only lessen the legitimacy of your survey but also confuse your participants.

#10 Know how you are going to analyze the data

By knowing in advance what type of data you will need in order to do your analysis, you can create your survey in a way to get the correct format of responses.
